This Is My Beloved Son: The Transfiguration of Christ
This misunderstood moment—is essential to what it means to be Christian. The Transfiguration of Christ is one of the most impressive and mysterious miracles of Christ, and yet one of the least known and understood biblical events. Yet, it spawned a long tradition of spiritual ascent and contemplative prayer. This book examines the Transfiguration in the context of the Gospel, Christian spirituality, and the traditions of the church.

Science, Creation and the Seeking of Truth in Orthodox Christian Theology
In this lecture, given at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2011, Fr Gregory Hallam argues for the compatibility of religion and science. Tracing the history of the relationship between Christianity and science in both the east and west, he suggests that the perceived conflict between the two is in fact a phoney war based on inaccurate views of both camps, and that Orthodox Christianity has many interesting insights to offer in the debate.

Compassion with Love
The rue de Crimée is an ordinary street in Paris. Yet go through the gates and into the courtyard and you find yourself in a different world. The noise and bustle of the big city disappears and you are in an oasis of unearthly quiet and peace. This is where the Orthodox Institute of St Serge hides. The builidings are old. The steps are worn down. On the doors of the church there is a two-headed eagle. But nowhere does it feel tired and worn out by age. There is a vibrant, warm feeling of a living joy in faith. Bogoslov.ru presents its readers with an interview with Archpriest Nikolai Chernokrak, lecturer at the Orthodox Institute of St Sergius.

Sermon on the Transfiguration
How we can allow the Uncreated Divine Light the Apostles saw on Mount Tabor to shine in our lives? What can we do to nourish our experience of the Transfiguration of Christ? Fr Yves Dubois discusses three areas on which we can work: the New Testament, the Jesus Prayer and the Mother of God.

Science and Eastern Orthodoxy: From the Greek Fathers to the Age of Globalization
People have pondered conflicts between science and religion since at least the time of Christ. The millennial-long debate is well documented in the literature in the history and philosophy of science and religion in Western civilization. Science and Eastern Orthodoxy is a departure from that vast body of work, providing the first general overview of the relationship between science and Christian Orthodoxy, the official church of the Oriental Roman Empire.

The Lion's World: A journey into the heart of Narnia
Following the appearance of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 1950, C. S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia have enchanted children and adults alike for over half a century. In The Lion's World, Rowan Williams explores the moral landscape of all seven novels in the series, and offers an astute guide to their spiritual subtext. He draws on significant aspects of their author's life and thought, and on key themes in his other novels, painting a richly textured picture of his aims and achievements. At the same time, Williams gently but firmly rebuts those critics who have charged Lewis with sexism, racial stereotyping and the glorification of violence.

Unfading Light tr. T.A. Smith
With its scholarly discussions of myth, German idealist philosophy, negative theology, and mysticism, shot through with reflections on personal religious experiences, Unfading Light documents what a life in Orthodoxy came to mean for Sergius Bulgakov on the tumultuous eve of the 1917 October Revolution. Written in the final decade of the Russian Silver Age, the book is a typical product of that era of experimentation in all fields of culture and life. Bulgakov referred to the book as miscellanies, a patchwork of chapters articulating in symphonic form the ideas and personal experiences that he and his entire generation struggled to comprehend. Readers may be reminded of St. Augustine's Confessions and City of God as they follow Bulgakov through the challenges and opportunities presented to Orthodoxy by modernity.

Chalice of Eternity: An Orthodox Theology of Time
In this article Dr Brandon Gallaher describes the major elements of an Orthodox theology of time, with particular reference to the theology of Fr Alexander Schmemann and St Gregory of Nyssa. Dr Gallaher asks what we mean by time in relation to creation and to God; what the nature of time is as experienced by us as fallen beings, as 'growth unto death'; and how time can be experienced as renewal, as 'growth unto life in Jesus Christ', referring in particular to the concept of the liturgical Eighth Day.

The Return of Gnosticism
Archimandrite Vassilios looks at the growth of popular interest in Gnostic writings, arguing that the Gnosticism of today is far removed from the tendency the early Church fought for so long, particularly in its view of the material world. In support of this view he examines the formation of the New Testament Canon and some of the most prominent Gnostic texts from the first few centuries AD.

Yearning for the One: Chapters in the Inner Life of the Greeks, trans. Norman Russell
How did the sense of the individual arise in European culture? And why did this sense develop more strongly in the Latin West than in the Greek East, in spite of the fact that some of the earliest reflections on the nature of the person belong to the Orthodox Christian world? In this searching investigation, Stelios Ramfos explores the roots of the modern debate on the person and concludes that the preoccupation of the Byzantine Greeks with eternity inhibited them from developing a fruitful sense of interiority. He argues that, nevertheless, a figure such as Leontius of Byzantium can suggest a way forward if Byzantine theological thinking is revisited in the light of insights derived from the Western philosophical tradition.
